The nature trail in the small village of Ens

by Bruno Boubin

An old pastoral path rehabilitated

An invitation to better understand an exceptional nature. This nature trail is 1.7 kilometers long and has a low elevation gain. It is accessible to a wide audience.

The trail,

starting point for hiking and mountain biking

The small village of Ens is located in the Aure Valley, 6 kilometers from Saint-Lary Soulan. It is known for its starting points for hiking and mountain bike trails. For several years, the association “Les Amis du patrimoine d’Ens” has been organizing different events to make its history known. In addition to the visits of the village and its church, the projection of slide shows and the organization of concerts and exhibitions, the members of this association have just rehabilitated an old pastoral way in nature path. By taking it, you will discover the natural riches of this exceptional mountain territory.

Supported by the Hautes-Pyrénées Departmental Council, “Les Amis du patrimoine d’Ens” have managed to bring back to life a path that invites you to live a moment out of time. Easily accessible in summer and winter (with snowshoes), it takes about an hour and a half to walk around it. If you are lucky, you may come across a herd of goats or sheep from the village or observe the flight of a lammergeier. Don’t forget to take the time to refresh yourself at the stream. Finally, enjoy the opportunity to savor a rare moment of tranquility.

To lead the herds to the pastures

The old pastoral path, called “l’Escalère”, allowed the herders to lead their flocks to the pastures. After the creation of a forest road, this path has partially fallen into disuse. Taking into account its landscape quality and the variety of fauna and flora that can be observed, the members of the association “Les Amis du patrimoine d’Ens” wanted to rehabilitate it.
