WINTER WALK

at the barns of Grascoue
A very nice walk to do with the family during the day with a picnic or just in the afternoon.

The route is neither too long nor too hard. It will lead you to the set of a dozen Granges located at 1400-1500 meters above the village of Vielle-Aure. Two different eras mark the history of the Grascouéou barns, the 19th and the 20th century.

Just above Saint-Lary

This pretty walk that starts one or two switchbacks before the village of Soulan, will lead you through a gentle pastoral track, to the granges de Grascouéou.
This short walk (1 h of ascent from Soulan) can be done all year round but in good weather to see all the peaks clear.
Snowshoes strongly advised in case of heavy snowfall.
Park your car on the parking lot slightly below in the last bend just before arriving at the village of Soulan, walk back down a few hundred meters on the road and you will find on the left the beginning of the track that will lead you to the barns.

An unforgettable view

From the barns, you will have a superb and unobstructed view of Saint-Lary Soulan, all the small villages in the vicinity, the Pla d’Adet and its ski slopes and all the surrounding peaks.
By making the effort to push a little higher to the ridge above the last barn, the view will be even more beautiful and you will see on the other side, the valley and the village of Aulon overlooked by the Arbizon, emblematic peak of the Aure valley.

And finally...

One last view for the eyes to enjoy as you make your way back down the same route.
Please bring water and adequate protection if you are doing this walk in the summer because this on this very sunny side, it gets very hot very quickly.
