Hiking

around the 4 lakes of Néouvielle

The Lakes Road is a must-do when in the Aure Valley and Saint-Lary.
This road will take you to the Neouvielle Reserve, in the Pyrenees National Park.
And once there, breathless in front of so much beauty, you will not find any more superlatives to describe what you see.
Which I will not even try to describe to you (the photos speak for themselves), because you have to see it to believe it.
I am barely exaggerating…

I propose a day hike, accessible to all, even children, which will make you discover the Néouvielle nature reserve and will make you pass for your greatest delight by 4 magnificent lakes (out of the 5).

The lake of Orédon

starting point of the hike.

Stop the vehicle at the lac d’Orédon (paid parking )
A shuttle bus can take you in 5 minutes to the lac d’Aumar but you’d be missing the most beautiful.
No such thing here, the wild beauty that awaits you and can be discovered on foot!
Start the hike from the path that goes left after the parking lot and bypasses the lake on its right, heading for Les Laquettes.

You’ll reach Les Laquettes after about 45 minutes on a trail that winds its way up through the forest and along the stream several times.

3h
Accessible to children
Panorama on 4 mountain lakes
Enjoy

The serenity and the restful calm of the laquettes.

You will reach the laquettes after about 45 minutes of trail that winds up through the forest and along the stream several times.

Be careful not to leave the path a little hard to follow at times or you will be forced to climb large rocks ( nothing insurmountable) at the water’s edge!”

If your walk is early enough and quiet, you will surely be able to make interesting encounters!

After a fairly flat passage along the laquettes, which we’ll leave behind, let’s resume our climb on the trail that will take us to Lake Aubert in about 30 minutes.
Lake Aubert hidden by its dam wall, doesn’t come into view until the very last minute.
But what a delight, right?

All that remains is for you to discover the last and 4th lake, Lake Aumar, my favorite, the end of this hike.
Located a little higher than the previous one, It can be reached in about 15 minutes ( by the trail, not by the road), from the terminal parking lot of the shuttle bus.

The way back is either by returning by the same route, or by the variant from the last lake (Aumar) in the direction of the Estoudou pass and then a long descent to the Orédon refuge and the parking lot where you left your vehicle.

Finally, if you still have legs and time up there you can also go up:

– to the col d’Aumar from the lac d’Aumar ( at the end of the lake on the left) 1 hr R/R
– to the Hourquette d’Aubert from the lac d’Aubert ( by going around it on the right, arrowed path).1 h 30 A/R
A very pretty panorama on these lakes and the surrounding summits of which the famous Néouvielle awaits you.

Good hike, open your eyes and lungs wide.
The mountain, it wins you over!
